Microcredential Training Opportunities

Trainings offered by independent organizations that can help CDCPs explore new topics and further their careers.

What is a microcredential?

A microcredential is a credit, certificate, certification, or other kind of recognized training in a specific area that goes beyond the CDCP training. For CDCPs, microcredentials serve as an opportunity for continuing education. These training courses have been approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and timing and cost may vary. When a CDCP completes a DHS-approved microcredential course (obtaining a badge in the process), they demonstrate a specialized skill above and beyond the standard CDCP training.

What is a badge?

A digital badge is a visual, virtual representation of acquired knowledge or skill. When an individual becomes a CDCP, they earn a badge. The badge shows that CDCPs have successfully completed courses necessary to work in a specific area and can be demonstrated virtually in diverse ways including in an email or social media platform. When you complete additional microcredentials, you will earn additional badges.

Tell Us About Your Microcredential Programs

Microcredential trainers are independent individuals or organizations that offer DHS-approved training to CDCPs on a specific topic area. Microcredential trainers become partners with DHS and UW-Green Bay and have trainings that can help CDCPs learn additional skills in a targeted area. By participating, training partners have access to thousands of new individuals who are growing their health care careers. If you would like to participate and offer your training to Certified Direct Care Professionals (CDCPs), we encourage you to apply.

Training Requirements

All training programs will be reviewed by the Department of Health Services and UW-Green Bay. In order to be accepted, your training must meet the following minimum training requirements:

  • All application fields must be complete, including attestations.
  • Trainings must be applicable to broad CDCP workforce — not specific to one employer or facility.
  • Trainings must be at least two hours.

Microcredentials allow Certified Direct Care Professionals (CDCPs) to expand their knowledge and expertise in the home and community-based field in a way that can be recognized by potential employers. When CDCPs take additional trainings and earn badges for their efforts, this shows their willingness to keep learning and growing.

Employers

Search the Employee Registry

Microcredentials cover a wide scope of topics. Employers who require specific training may exempt CDCPs who have completed a microcredential course. Additionally, if you require your employees to have a specific skill, you may choose to direct them to the microcredentials program offered by eligible providers. Search the registry to check if your employee is a Certified Direct Care Professional.
