How We Help

The Office of Grants and Research provides comprehensive support to faculty, researchers and staff throughout the lifecycle of a grant or sponsored project. These support services ensure that all stages of the project—from proposal development to post-award administration and project closeout—are managed effectively and in compliance with federal, state, sponsor and institutional regulations. Our services encompass the following:

1Training & Education

We offer training on various aspects of sponsored programs management, including compliance, reporting and proposal preparation. Plus, get one-on-one support to troubleshoot issues that arise during the lifecycle of a project. Before completing research, you'll need to complete training and become familiar with our policies to ensure you're in compliance.

2Pre-Award Services

Consult us early and often! Before you earn an award, we'll help you prepare and submit your proposal.

3Award Negotiation & Acceptance

If you earn an award, a summary is sent to marketing/social media/etc. and we'll send you a note so you know your next steps.

Award Acceptance Information

Award Notification

Once an award is made, the office helps in reviewing the award terms and conditions to ensure they align with the proposal.

Negotiation

In cases where the terms need adjustment (e.g., budget modifications or compliance requirements), the office facilitates negotiations with the sponsor.

Award Setup

After acceptance, the office sets up the financial and administrative infrastructure to manage the project (e.g., creating a project number, fund allocation and tracking).

Subawards & Contracts

The office helps facilitate subcontracts and other agreements with collaborators, ensuring compliance with both the institution’s and sponsor’s policies.

4Post-Award Services

After receiving your reward, you'll need to complete certain steps regarding financial management and compliance. As always, we're here to help!

What to Do After an Award

Financial Monitoring

Ensure that the project follows the approved budget and sponsor guidelines. This includes tracking expenses, providing financial reports and assisting with cost-sharing requirements.

Compliance & Reporting

Provide oversight to ensure that the project meets all compliance requirements. This can include regulatory reports, progress reports and financial reports.

Audit Support

Offer support during audits or reviews by the sponsor or government entities, ensuring that all required documentation is in place and that the project is being managed appropriately.

Subawards & Contracts

Process any changes to the award, such as budget revisions, no-cost extensions, or changes to scope of work. We will also decide the best way to communicate with sponsors and program officers.

5Closeout Services

When your project is done, we'll assist you with tasks to ensure everything is finalized.

Final Financial Reports

Help with the preparation and submission of final financial reports, ensuring all expenses are accounted for, and the funds are properly reconciled.

Final Progress Reports

In cases where the terms need adjustment (e.g., budget modifications or compliance requirements), the office facilitates negotiations with the sponsor.

Inventory & Asset Management

Help ensure proper disposition of equipment and materials purchased under the grant, following sponsor and institutional policies.
