Overview for General Education and Institutional Learning Outcomes Assessment

General Education Assessment:
1. Cycle and Process:
  • Assessment Cycle: Lower-level courses meeting General Education requirements are assessed on a three-year cycle, organized by College (see schedule below).
  • Assessment Steps:
    • Year 1: Conduct a baseline assessment to determine if students are progressing toward the General Education Learning Outcomes.
    • Year 2: Develop and implement an intervention for outcomes that do not meet the 75% benchmark.
    • Year 3: Reassess after implementing the intervention.
2. Responsibilities:
  • Programs: Determine which courses to assess for each General Education Outcome, norm and maintain their assessment artifacts, and complete both an Assessment Plan and a Final Assessment Report.
Institutional Learning Outcomes Assessment:
1. Cycle and Process:
  • Assessment Cycle: Lower-level, upper-level, and graduate courses are assessed on a three-year cycle, organized by College (see schedule below).
  • Assessment Tools: Programs are encouraged to use the AACU Value Rubrics to evaluate proficiency for Institutional Learning Outcomes.
2. Responsibilities:

  • Norm and maintain their assessment artifacts 
  • Complete a yearly Assessment Plan or Status Report
  • Complete a Final Assessment Report
