A Place to Ponder, Explore & Admire
1,700 square feet of artistic expression.
Art reveals hidden truths and invites us to explore life’s mysteries. As far as what’s “true art?” That’s for you to decide! And half the adventure of visiting the Lawton Gallery. Located in the heart of the campus, it offers a space for everyone. Stop in briefly, linger and reflect, or simply wander. What you experience may stir up discomfort, curiosity, joy or even frustration. But no matter what, it connects us—to ourselves, to others and to the world around us.
Free
Like education, art should be accessible! Our gallery is free and open to the public.
Hours
The gallery is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Saturday, during the Fall and Spring semesters, and closed during the summer months (June, July & August).
Location
We're located on the second floor of the Theatre Hall building, Room 230.

Art is Alive
On Campus
Discover our permanent collection.
The permanent collection, featuring around 1,000 pieces, reflects a rich blend of artistic contributions. It includes works donated by faculty, community members and the Art Agency, pieces gifted by graduating students from their Senior Shows and purchases intended to build our collection. Additionally, the Intercultural Center houses a unique collection of approximately 30 works by Indigenous artists, curated separately. You’ll find about two-thirds of the entire collection displayed across campus, offering a dynamic cultural experience for all. If you're interested in viewing a specific piece, please let the Curator of Art know at least 48 hours prior so we can make it available to you.
Explore Online
We invite you to come experience the art in person, but until you can, check out all that the gallery does.
Artist Lecture Series
We stand on the shoulders of giants. By learning from other artists, you can further develop your own style and gain inspiration.
Student Opportunities
Our gallery presents about 7 exhibitions per year, and many of these feature student work. The gallery also employs student interns and guards.

A sneak peek into the UW-Green Bay art program like never before! Lawton interns give studio interviews with UW-Green Bay Art and Design faculty, students and featured artists.
Arts Management Minor
With hands-on laboratory experience for courses and internships, the gallery serves students in the arts management minor.
Collaboration Across Campus
Throughout our history, we've worked with departments like the Pride Center, the Richter Museum and Center for First Nations Education.
Art Events
Since the doors opened in 1982 from a substantial gift from Randall and Catherine Lawton, the gallery has hosted over 135 exhibitions. We continue to present events to help connect our community to creativity.
Open Calls
Our open calls are opportunities for you to submit art and share your work with other people.
Cofrin School of Business Art Competition
Annually, Fall Semester
The Cofrin School of Business aims to foster collaboration across the university, celebrate creativity and honor the community and students we serve. We hope that this annual art competition is just one way that we can demonstrate philanthropy for UW-Green Bay students and area businesses.
Indigenous Art Exhibition
January 25 - February 29, 2024
This exhibition aims to highlight the Indigenous artists, featuring UW-Green Bay's alumni and students. Through art, we'll respect and honor the hard work of artists, as well emphasize the voices of indigenous people within the Menominee and Ho-Chunk Nations.
