Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee

The use of animals in research and teaching is crucial to the advancement and development of scientific knowledge in many different fields and disciplines. Under the auspices of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) was granted the ability to regulate animal research; this regulatory power led to the development of the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay works within OLAW and USDA guidelines to monitor and ensure ethical treatment of all non-human vertebrate animals in all faculty, staff, and student work. All animal research, testing, and teaching at UW – Green Bay must be approved by IACUC
