Why is Civic Engagement important?
At UW Green Bay, we believe in the "communiversity" concept, which means we're all about connecting the university with the local community. It's a team effort where students, faculty and community members come together to tackle local issues and drive positive change.

James Harris, 2022-2023 Civic Scholar, is currently serving as a national Newman Fellow and was just awarded Universities of Wisconsin’s Bridging-the-Divide Scholarship from the Tommy G. Thomson Center on Pubic Leadership

UW-Green Bay has been recognized with the 2024 Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement, which verifies that our students are engaged, forward-thinking members of Northeast Wisconsin. This classification has been the leading framework for institutional assessment and recognition of community engagement in U.S. higher education for the past 19 years.

"Go for it! I know the idea of it might be scary, and it might seem like a lot, but it’s truly one of the best decisions I ever made. I met so many amazing professors, who became some of my closest mentors, who still recommend me for opportunities even after being done with the program! It gave me the opportunity to have an internship with the Boys & Girls Club, and has continued to help me with other opportunities, like being a peer mentor for a first year seminar for the Fall 2024 semester!
