Moving Toward a Better Future
It’s easy to “go green” at UW-Green Bay.
Deemed the original Eco U® by Harper's Magazine and Newsweek in the 1970s, UW-Green Bay has always championed sustainability. As the heartbeat of campus, the University Union plays an important part in this mission. That’s why we've implemented sustainable practices.
Composting
During the first year, our composter created about 28,500 pounds of compost. Now, we offer composting at events, so trash, recycling and composting are all available to help us cut down on waste.
Reusable Containers
The reusable contain program is currently being reimagined. Check back soon for updates!
Sustainability Initiatives
With state-of-the-art technology, the Union has implemented many sustainable practices in the building.
Reusable Drink Containers & Hydration Stations
Reusable water bottles and coffee mugs are available for purchase in The Phoenix Bookstore. There are also hydration stations located in multiple areas of the Union that keeps track of how many plastic water bottles are saved.
Sustainable Architecture
With the use of double doors, natural lighting and window blinds, our building is able to be more conservative with heating and cooling costs. Motion activated, energy efficient LED lights save energy in the building, and our restrooms use motion-activated sinks, toilets and drying stations.
Future Projects
The University Union and University Dining are exploring new initiatives such as EV delivery vehicles and growing locally grown food with grow towers.
