Military Training & Experience
At UW-Green Bay, we recognize the value of your military training and experience. If you're an active duty service member or a veteran, you may be eligible to receive college credit for the knowledge and skills you gained during your service.
How to Receive Credit for Military Training
To get started, you’ll need to submit your military transcript for evaluation. UW-Green Bay awards credit based on recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF).
Army, Navy, Marines & Coast Guard
The Army and National Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard use the Joint Services Transcripts (JST). It documents formal training and occupations that have been reviewed by ACE.
Air Force
Request transcripts for the Air Force through the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) or Air University.
How to Apply for Credit
- Submit your military transcript as part of your UW-Green Bay admissions process.
- The Registrar’s Office will work with the relevant academic department to evaluate your training and determine course equivalencies.
- Once evaluated, you’ll be notified of the credits awarded or informed if additional information is needed.
What Credits You May Receive
Below is an outline of how UW-Green Bay applies military training and experience to your earned credits.
ACE & CCAF Recommendations
- We honor all ACE and CCAF recommendations for Lower Division and Upper Division credit.
- Vocational Certificate credit isn't transferable.
- Graduate-level credit may be transferable at the discretion of the graduate program.
- Specific military credits may fulfill major or minor requirements, pending approval by the faculty chair.
- The total number of lower division credits will be recorded as a block of lower-level elective credit.
- The total number of upper division credits will be recorded as a block of upper-level elective credit.
How Military Credits Work
Military credits are treated like transfer credits. They count toward your degree but don’t count as in-residence credits for residency or honors requirements. If you transfer to another college, the new institution will determine whether it accepts these credits.
