International Baccalaureate (IB) Exam
If you’ve completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in high school, you may be eligible to earn college credit at UW-Green Bay. By achieving the required scores on your IB exams, you can apply your knowledge toward your degree and move ahead in your college coursework.
What Are IB Exams?
The IB program is a challenging two-year curriculum often taken in the last two years of high school. It emphasizes critical thinking and global learning. IB exams assess your knowledge in various subjects and are graded on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest score. Earning IB credit can help you:
- Save time and money by reducing the number of courses you need to take in college.
- Skip introductory courses and move directly into advanced topics.
- Graduate sooner by completing your degree faster.
How IB Credits Work at UW-Green Bay
UW-Green Bay awards credit for Higher Level (HL) and some Standard Level (SL) IB exams. To receive credit, you’ll need a minimum score of 4 or higher on the IB exam. The number of credits you earn and the specific UW-Green Bay course they apply to will depend on your exam score and the subject. See a full list of IB exams and their corresponding UW-Green Bay course credits, in the IB Credit Equivalencies table below.
Key Points to Remember
- Only degree-seeking students at UW-Green Bay are eligible for IB credit.
- You must earn a score of 4 or higher on an HL exam or SL exam (where credit is offered) to qualify for college credit.
- For score of 28+, full diploma recipients receive 3 elective credits in addition to the credits awarded for passing scores on their Higher Level and Standard Level Exams.
Other Options to Earn Credit
If you’ve taken Standard Level (SL) courses that don’t automatically grant credit, you are encouraged to explore other options such as:
- Advanced Placement (AP) exams or CLEP exams to earn credit in the same subject areas.
- Speak with a UW-Green Bay faculty member about the possibility of a Challenge Exam if no other options are available.
- Speak to your Department Chair upon enrollment for more information if you've taken a World Language IB Exam.
