Studying abroad is an unforgettable experience, full of traveling to new places and experiencing different cultures. But it's also about studying. If you're participating in a study abroad program, except most faculty-led travel courses, you will meet to meet with your academic advisor and complete the academic advising agreement. They can guide you through the process and make sure you're meeting academic requirements, whether it be general education, major/minor courses or electives in a specific subject area.

UW-Green Bay students have the option of participating in a program outside of the university if that program fits their academic and personal needs. Academic advising is similar to study abroad advising for these programs; however before you apply to a non-UW-Green Bay study abroad program, you'll need to complete the Non-UWGB Program Checklist.
This form allows you have courses pre-approved by the Registrar so there are no issues with credit transfer after you return. Programs outside of approved UW-Green Bay study abroad or National Student Exchange programs will be entered as transfer credit. After the credit is approved, you'll work with your academic advisor to find the equivalencies in your academic programs. Use our Academic Advising Agreement or a similar form from your host university to help find equivalencies for courses taken abroad.
A Non-UWGB Program Form must also be completed before you depart. Any forms that need to be signed by a study abroad advisor must be turned into the Office of International Education (OIE). You must have a submitted checklist on file to be eligible for the WITCO Travel Grant or endorsement of any other scholarships or grants.

Faculty-Led Travel Courses
UW-Green Bay offers several faculty-led travel courses each year during the academic breaks. These programs are generally listed as a 299 or 499 course under a specific department and usually are a one 3 credit course.
**Exceptions to this include language department immersion courses or 6 credit programs, which require an Academic Advising Agreement.
Students are registered for this course as part of a regular term (i.e. January or summer interim). While some students count these programs as general education requirements, others may need to substitute this course for a major or minor requirement or have it count as an elective in their program plan. The individual program website provides details on general education coverage or by contacting us.
Please work with Registrar to complete any necessary forms and with the Academic Advising office on any general education equivalencies. Study abroad advisors can also confirm general education equivalencies.
