Assistantships for 2024 - 2025

1 Program/Teaching Assistantship (Position is filled for the 2024-2025 Academic Year)

This program/teaching assistant position provides program and instructional support through the Department of Psychology. This position is expected to devote approximately 20 hours per week, from late August through late May. The position may renew in the next academic year dependent upon performance and assistantship funding. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the M.S. Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology program through updating social media and webpages, organizing events, assisting with program operations and more.
  • Assist with instruction and logistics in undergrad psychology courses such as communicating with instructors and students, making instructional videos, coordinating research administration, developing course materials and more.
  • Other tasks may be assigned, as appropriate, to support the Program and the Department.

The program/teaching assistant is under the supervision of, and reports to, the Chair of the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology Program and the Chair of the Department of Psychology.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Admission to the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology Program.
  • Enrollment in a minimum of six credits per semester and no fewer than 15 credits per academic year.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average for graduate courses.
  • Demonstrate outstanding potential for program and instructional support.

Preference will be given to a student who has an undergraduate degree in psychology or experience assisting with academic/athletic program operations.

Application

Graduate Studies will notify students via an email calling for graduate assistantship applications. Students apply for assistantships through Graduate Studies. Students will submit a statement of interest regarding the position, a resume and contact information for two references who could speak about your ability in organizational skills, research and/or instructional support (all in one email) to Graduate Studies. The SEPP program and Graduate Studies collaborate to select a student for the assistantship. 

2Applied Research Assistantship (SEPP students will be notified in the summer months if there is a CAR assistantship available). 
This graduate assistant position provides support through the Consortium of Applied Research (CAR). This position is expected to devote approximately 20 hours per week to applied data collection, data cleaning, writing of reports and preparing documents for the Wisconsin 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative. Activities include:
  • Completing data quality checks to ensure data are reliably entered into the system.
  • Providing technical assistance virtually to afterschool program staff regarding questions surrounding the data.
  • Communicating data findings to key stakeholders.
  • Other tasks may be assigned, as appropriate, to support the Director of the CAR.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Admission to the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology Program.
  • Enrollment in a minimum of six credits per semester and no fewer than 15 credits per academic year.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average for graduate courses.
  • Demonstrate outstanding potential for research, data collection and writing.

Preference will be given to a student who has experience in K-12 education or experience in afterschool programs or youth-serving organizations.

Compensation

This position is year-long, with a 9-month assistantship during the academic year and hourly pay in summer months. The start date is August of each year. This position will work hourly in the summer (at the rate of $16.35 per hour). When the school year begins, students will be compensated as a 9-month Graduate Assistant Position (See the Graduate Studies website). After the academic year, the position is funded on an hourly rate during the summer months. The position may renew for a second year dependent upon performance and grant funding.
