Whether you’re a major, minor or just want to take a class to shore up your skills, learning a new language is a life-long endeavor, only part of which can be accomplished in the classroom. You can pursue opportunities for travel and study in Spain, Mexico, Argentina and Chile. But you don’t have to go outside of the country to use your Spanish: our program provides opportunities to work closely with the local Latinx/Hispanic community while earning credit.
Major
Our major es mejor. With 30 credits in the major, you'll take courses ranging from contemporary Latin American culture to Spanish phonetics.

Seeking Teaching Certification?
In order to become certified in teaching Spanish and Latin American Studies, you'll major in our program. You'll also need to:
- Be admitted to the Education Program.
- Complete the minor in Secondary Education.
- Successfully complete oral and written proficiency exams before student can be approved for student teaching (testing requirements).
- Spend an appropriate period of time in a country where Spanish is spoken or participate in an approved immersion program.
