Jack Norman

Jack C. Norman, 72, passed away on Oct. 29, 2010, with his family by his side. He was born June 16, 1938, in Taunton, Mass., to the late Chet and Marjorie (Owen) Norman.

The eldest of three sons, he graduated from North Haverhill Academy in North Haverhill, N.H., in 1956, and then attended the University of New Hampshire.

He graduated from UNH with a degree in chemistry in 1960, and then received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, 
Madison, in 1965. Jack was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Washington, Seattle, and then taught at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, before moving to the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, in 1968.

He retired from UWGB in 2002 as a full professor. Jack greatly enjoyed teaching several generations of students as well as conducting research related to nuclear chemistry, paper chemistry and environmental-related concerns.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Jack enjoyed traveling with his family, particularly in western and northern Europe.

He also took pleasure in gardening and spending time outdoors.

Jack is survived by his wife, Carol (Owens) Norman, of 46 years; his sons, Jeffrey, Green Bay; Jon, Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Richard, Fairlee, Vermont; and David,Grantham, N.H., and their families.

A memorial gathering will be held at Wally's Spot Supper Club at 1979 Main Street in Green Bay on Sunday, Dec, 5, 2010, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jack Norman Memorial Fund of The UNH Foundation at the University of New Hampshire.
