Call 2300 to Report a Crime

Report a Crime

When reporting a crime or suspicious activity, follow these steps:

1 Remain Calm

It is completely understandable to be upset, angry or crying. However, remaining calm can help you answer questions more easily to ensure police can more effectively intervene.

2 Speak Clearly

If police can't understand you, it's hard to respond to an incident. Take deep breaths and speak clearly when reporting.

3 Give as Many Details as Possible

Tell us what is going on, give us the time and location it occurred, include a description of person or vehicle if applicable. This helps us plan our intervention.

Report a Crime

Report a Crash

If you've witnessed a crash or are involved in an accident, let University Police know to help clear the road and create a record for insurance purposes. Follow these steps:

  • Call 911 if there are injuries or road blockage.
  • Give location, number of vehicles and names of the parties involved.
  • Exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance information and license plate numbers with people from the other vehicle(s) involved.

Reportable Crashes

A "reportable" crash either begins or ends on a traffic way, involves at least one vehicle in transport and results in any of the following:

  1. Injury or fatality of a person
  2. Total damage to one person's property to an apparent extent of $1,000 or more
  3. Damage to government-owned property to an apparent extent of $200 or more, except government-owned vehicles, which are $1,000

"Reportable" Crash Reports are available online through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT). Reports may not be available until 10 days AFTER the date of crash. If you were involved in a crash which was documented by the University Police Department, electronic crash reports can be obtained. To receive a printed reportable crash report, you must come to the University Police Department in IS1032 to pick it up.

Non-Reportable Crashes

"Non-reportable" accidents are available for purchase from the University Police Department, but not available from the State of Wisconsin. A release is required. To receive a printed report of a non-reportable or reportable crash:

  • Complete a release.
  • Pick of the printed report from the University Police Department in IS1032.

Report Stalking

Stalking is a crime in Wisconsin, and University Police will aggressively investigate all reports. Wisconsin defines stalking, actions and intended outcomes that could constitute stalking in Statute 943.20. If you know someone who is engaged in these behaviors either as a victim or perpetrator, contact University Police immediately. (Emergency 911; non-emergency 920-465-2300)

When stalking behavior is confirmed, the Dean of Students Office may institute a no-contact order under their UWS CH 17 authority. These UW no-contact orders are NOT a substitute for court issued restraining orders which carry the full weight of the law, but can serve as a valuable immediate tool to deter certain behaviors on University grounds.

Resources

Statistically, stalkers will not go away unless they are confronted and forced to stop. If you are a victim of stalking, we have resources to help you start the process to take action against your stalker.

Report Bias-Related Incidents

We are committed to supporting a campus that's free from bias, prejudice and harassment. If an incident motivated by bias has occurred, make a report. That way, we can record, respond and prevent future behaviors. Contact University Police if it is also a crime so we can immediately investigate any criminal matter.

If you experience bias or hatred on or off any of the UW-Green Bay campuses, it is important to report the incident. We are committed to supporting a campus that's free from bias, prejudice and harassment. Completing a report helps University Police record, respond and prevent future behaviors to maintain a positive learning, living and working environment in our university community. If this is an urgent or emergency situation call 911, or call University Police at 920-465-2300 if it is also a crime so it can immediately be investigated.20-465-2300.
