Essential Job Functions

The Information Literacy Librarian plays a pivotal role in enhancing student success by contributing to the development and implementation of the Library's information literacy program. The successful candidate will show a commitment to educating all learners by staying current in emerging trends in information literacy, instructional technology, and higher education and possess excellent collaboration and communication skills.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and deliver instruction in a variety of formats to faculty, staff, students, and other patrons. Serve as a pedagogical resource for library teaching staff, supporting the integration of best practices and emerging trends in information literacy into the library's suite of instructional support services.
     
  • Plan and coordinate instructional sessions that develop critical research skills in line with ACRL standards, and contribute to initiatives to fully integrate information literacy into the University's general education program.
     
  • Collaborate with other librarians to create activities, lesson plans, and learning objects that enhance critical thinking and information literacy, ensuring that all materials are inclusive and effectively support the teaching and learning needs of instructors, students, and staff.
     
  • Act as a subject liaison to designated academic departments, providing expert guidance on research tools and methods, Open Educational Resources (OER) support, and information literacy integration through consultations, outreach, and specialized instruction.
     
  • Work closely with instructors, academic programs and campus offices to enhance instructional efforts and promote information literacy across the curriculum.
     
  • Lead the assessment of instructional practices and contribute to broader efforts to evaluate student learning and information literacy outcomes, ensuring the effectiveness of library instruction.
     
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data to continually refine and improve the library's instructional offerings.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of Library Science or Masters of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years professional experience in an academic library. 
  • Experience developing learning objects, tutorials, learning modules, and other technologically enhanced instructional materials. 
  • Experience in designing, developing, and delivering instructional sessions in diverse modalities.
  • Experience in the assessment of instructional practices, evaluating student learning outcomes, and refining library instruction based on data analysis.
  • Track record of working closely with instructors, academic programs, and campus offices to promote information literacy.
  • Professional experience using the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to inform instructional design and delivery.
  • Experience serving as a subject liaison to academic departments, supporting both scholarship and instruction.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Oneida, or Somali.

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule, subject to approved telecommuting request. 

This position requires evening and weekend hours depending on departmental needs. Travel to meetings and conferences is required. Weekend reference rotation is required.

Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION
Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

BENEFIT DETAILS
The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
