Essential Job Functions

The First Nations Student Success Manager plays a pivotal role in the development, evaluation and implementation of multicultural programs and recruitment efforts in support of underrepresented students’ enrollment and success. Develops internal partnerships in support of program awareness and providing student interventions, as needed.

This position reports to and collaborates closely with the Center for First Nations Education Program Director. In addition to a strong independent initiative, a successful candidate should excel at working with others in the First Nations Studies program, First Nations Education doctoral program and other university departments in the development and management of student programs. 

What You'll Do

  • Assists in the development and implementation of student multicultural programs
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal partnerships to coordinate institutional diversity efforts and initiatives
  • Facilitates cross unit recruiting efforts for student, faculty, and staff involvement to raise awareness and involvement in multicultural programming
  • Designs, delivers, and evaluates interventions, programs and services for underrepresented students
  • Advises students and community stakeholders in building sustainable coalitions, organizations, and/or movements
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Wisconsin First Nations, tribal higher education departments, high schools and colleges that serve First Nations students to support student enrollment and graduation
  • Support the well-being, development and retention of First Nations students through individual and group support and referral as needed
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation and coordination of student recruitment activities to enhance access and enrollment of First Nations Students

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations communities in tribal or urban setting
  • Strong knowledge about Wisconsin First Nations history, culture, sovereignty and contemporary status with a focus on the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin
  • Experience with First Nations students in higher education or equivalent setting
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team environment using consensus-based decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating and assessing college access and/or retention programs
  • Evidence of effective intercultural communication skills that demonstrate ability to work with diverse population of students, staff, faculty and community leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate intercultural development and manage cultural differences
  • Proven computer proficiency in working with Microsoft office suite and student record keeping databases (i.e., NAVIGATE or similar systems)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree in Higher Education Student Affairs or related field
  • Experience working with First Nations knowledge bearers or oral scholars

Conditions of Appointment

The work hours for this position will be 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule, subject to approved telecommuting request. The home campus of this position is Green Bay. The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel for meetings, school visits, and conferences, possibly during evenings or weekends.

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s) and if there is prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct. Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION

Minimum salary of $50,000

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

BENEFIT DETAILS

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
