Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Director of University Recreation and coordinates and manages complex operations and program components as well as serves as the Deputy Director of UREC. The operational component includes, but is not limited to primary oversight of the UREC Front Desk and membership operations; lead department marketing and assessment initiatives; coordinating aspects of facility operations involving policy, schedule, risk management, security and safety; programming oversight fitness/wellness and wellbeing components; and personnel management.  Works cooperatively with other professional staff and students in accomplishing operational, programmatic, service and student development goals along with supporting the departmental strategic initiatives.  The position will work to create a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all UW-Green Bay students where all feel a sense of place and pride

What You'll Do

  • Provide complete personnel management and supervisory oversight of graduate assistant and student positions involving building supervisor, front desk and fitness center operations, group fitness, personal training, graphic design, social media, and financial support.
  • Oversee customer service-based leadership and direction of the Kress Events Center facility, Front Desk and Fitness Center operations that includes support of services, daily / evening / weekend supervision, scheduling, risk management protocols, policy development, and resolving patron conflicts and issues.
  • Lead fitness and wellbeing programming (fitness center, group fitness, personal training, etc.) as well as collaborate on department and university recreational special events.
  • Leadership of UREC department marketing, assessment and program review initiatives not limited to, but including: maintaining department website(s), managing UREC social media accounts, conducting and assessing surveys, and developing the department annual report along with other promotional materials.
  • Assist the Director with UREC department budget development, presentation, management, review, forecasting, fees and assessment as well as department purchasing initiatives.
  • Manages and maintains the Recreation Center membership database (Innosoft Fusion).
  • Act as lead UREC department administrator in absence of the Director.  

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sports Administration, Recreation Management, Exercise Science, Wellness, Business Administration or related field at time of application.
  • Three (3) years professional experience (or 2 years professional experience plus 2 years as a graduate assistant) in campus recreation, collegiate athletics, fitness or related field.
  • Experience directly hiring, training, supervising and developing staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing recreation/athletic/fitness facility operations.
  • Experience dealing with emergency preparedness and risk management and implementing appropriate practices.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the internet.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in sports administration, recreation management, business administration, public administration or related field. 
  • Two or more years of experience supervising full-time professional, graduate assistant, and/or student staff members.
  • Prior experience specific to leading marketing, strategic planning and assessment initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to fitness/wellness programming.
  • Previous experience in managing program membership including experience operating recreation membership software system (i.e., Innosoft Fusion or like application).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading marketing and assessment initiatives. 
  • Experience working with EMS (Event Management Systems).
  • Nationally recognized certification as a health fitness instructor, strength and conditioning specialist or personal trainer from a nationally recognized governing body (i.e., ACE, ACSM, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, NETA, NSCA).
  • Ability to teach and lead with a philosophy placing a strong emphasis on student development.

Conditions of Appointment

Requires an individual to work flexible hours at times that can include early mornings, evenings and weekends on varying schedule associated to the coordination of facility activities, projects, and events taking place within the facilities.  Some position-supported activities do occur in the outside environment, so must be willing to endure various weather conditions as necessary. 

Position is a full-time, Academic Staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION

Minimum salary of $55,000.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)


BENEFIT DETAILS

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
