Education:  B.A., Buena Vista University; M.S., Ph.D. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In addition to her role as one of the associate deans in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Dr. Nelson is an associate professor in the Department of Human Biology where she teaches Kinesiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Human Anatomy Lab.  Dr. Nelson also has an appointment as an adjunct associate professor at MCW-Green Bay where she team-teaches in the Clinical Human Anatomy medical school lab. 

Research Interests:
Dr. Nelson’s research expertise is in the area of exercise physiology, particularly as it relates to neural adaptations across the lifespan. Her work has focused on the effects of exercise training on glucocorticoid response and neuroplasticity in cardiorespiratory and locomotor areas of the brain.  As a certified athletic trainer, Dr. Nelson is also interested in movement analysis as it relates to sport performance, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.  In collaboration with local physical therapists, she is currently working on a project designed to assess core strength and joint flexibility in response to hippotherapy treatment.
 
Other Interests:
Running, triathlons, traveling, watching Big Ten sports, gardening, and reading/watching true crime stories.
