Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to commonly asked questions about the Guardian Training.
This information helps you determine whether or not you are required to complete the Guardian Training and provides registration and login instructions.
I am a co-guardian. Do I have to take the training?
- Per Act 97, all guardians are required to take the training at least 96 hours prior to the final hearing to be appointed permanent guardian of the person and/or guardian of the estate.
- Each individual guardian is required to take the training separately; guardians cannot take the training together under one account.
If I am a successor or stand-by guardian, do I need to take the training?
- Please consult the county in which the ward resides regarding how they wish you to proceed.
Is the training available in any additional languages other than English?
- Currently, the training is only available in English.
- The training will be available in both Spanish and Hmong.
I don’t have a computer and/or internet access. How can I take the training?
- To find a free computer or internet access in your county, please access find a computer.
- A paper version of the training is in development; however, at this time, the online training is the only version available.
How do I register for the Guardian Training?
This video will take you step by step through registering for the training course. You can also follow step-by-step how to register instructions.
I registered for the course and completed some of the modules but did not have time to complete the course. How do I get back into the course to complete the remaining modules?

Where do I find my certificate?
- You can find your certificate of completion on the Guardian Registry.
- To search your name on the registry, please enter your first and last name, then select the magnifying glass to the left of your name.
- The training verification will be shown in a separate window.
- To print a paper copy or pdf of the Guardian Training certificate, click on the print button.
How do I know if I have completed the course?
- Once you have reached the end of the training, you will need to complete the survey linked under the module “Evaluation Survey”.
- Completion of this module will take to you the ‘Course Completion” Notification.
- Please allow 2-3 business days for us to review your course completion.
- You will receive a confirmation email if all course materials are completed.
- If all modules have not been viewed in their entirety and/or there are Knowledge Checks that still need to be completed, you will receive an email detailing what is left to complete.
- You can find your certificate of completion on the Guardian Registry.
How can I prove that I have completed the training?
- You will receive a confirmation email within 2-3 business days with a link to the Guardian Registry.

Do I have to take both the Guardian of the Person and Guardian of the Estate training?
Yes. Per Act 97, it is required that all guardians take both trainings.
- In order to be placed on the online Guardian Registry it is required that individuals take all of the training modules. This includes:
- Viewing all video modules
- Completing all knowledge checks and activities
- Completing the Evaluation Survey
How do I correct an error on the registry?
- To correct a misspelled name, employees or employers can send a copy of a legal ID for the individual with the misspelling to guardian@uwgb.edu.
- After confirming the correct spelling and that the date of birth matches, the registry staff will make the change.
- If you do not have a middle initial, type a ‘.’ in the middle initial field provided.
