Dr. Courtney Sherman, soprano, holds a Doctorate in voice performance and a Master's degree in opera/musical theatre performance from Arizona State University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Western Michigan University.  Courtney has performed soprano solos in Rutter’s Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Handel’s Messiah, among others.  Additionally, she has performed a wide range of art song repertoire and several roles from the operatic repertoire.  She is an Associate Professor of Music at UW-Green Bay, teaching courses for both the Music and Theatre programs. She regularly serves as the conductor and music director for UW-Green Bay's musical theatre productions, including Cabaret, Avenue Q, Spring Awakening, and Legally Blonde.  As a regular interpreter of new music, she has performed the works of several of her colleagues, and has appeared as a featured performer in the Composer’s Voice concert series in New York City, premiering new works by living composers from around the world.  After having collaborated on many performances with cellist Michael Dewhirst, the two formed a duo named I/You, and look forward to performing more music for cello and voice. Courtney is the Music Director at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Green Bay, and she maintains a private voice studio.  She appears often as a clinician and guest speaker in northeast Wisconsin, and is consulted regularly for her expertise in applying classical vocal technique to contemporary musical theatre repertoire.  In her spare time, Courtney enjoys bicycling, reading, and cooking.
