Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I get a release of information to see SIS?
A: A student's grades are protected by FERPA. The easiest way for a parent/guardian to see their student's grades is to ask the student to log into their SIS account and review their semester record and/or academic transcript together. Grades are not sent to the student either by mail or email. A student may sign a release allowing a university official to verify grades earned to their parent for a specific semester or course, however if a full reporting of grades is desired, the student should print their unofficial transcript from SIS or request an unofficial/official transcript from the Registrar's office. The release is available on our forms page.
Q: How can I contact someone about my students’ discipline?
A: After it has been determined a student has violated a policy, a letter is sent to parents if the violation is a first offense for drugs or a second offense for alcohol. The Dean of Students Office reserves the right to make earlier notices if there is a more immediate concern regarding the student’s substance use. The Dean of Students office is the primary record holder of student misconduct records and may release records regarding the student's violation of any Federal, State, or local law, or of any UWGB policy, governing the use or possession of alcohol or a controlled substance if the school determines the student committed a disciplinary violation and the student is under the age of 21. FERPA does not pertain to records held by the UWGB Public Safety department. Parents are always welcome to contact the Dean of Students Office if they have general questions about the misconduct process.
Q: What are my student's meal plan options?
A: Specific to the Green Bay campus, residential students are required to select a meal plan at the Move-In Day check-in process. Commuter students may select a meal plan from all of the available options and may either have the meal plan billed to SIS or visit the University Ticketing & Information Center to purchase a meal plan. All students may request to change or cancel their meal plan within the first two weeks of the semester.
Q: How should I encourage my student to get involved?
A: At UW-Green Bay, we invite you to join us in encouraging students to get involved on campus in order to meet friends, learn new skills, and just have fun. There are countless opportunities for your student to attend events and join student clubs/organizations. Share these opportunities with your student:
- OrgSmorg – UW-Green Bay’s student club and organization fair. Typically held the second week of each semester, students can walk around and meet current club/org representatives to discover what may be a good fit.
- Campus Calendar - Your student can browse upcoming events to attend on all campus locations
- Service and volunteerism
- Student Engagement
