Your Career is Your Calling
Earn a degree doing what you love.
Literature isn’t just words – it encapsulates the intimate stories of our lives, reaching out and connecting with us across generations. Through reading, you'll learn about other cultures, experiences and realities. Through writing, you'll learn to express your own thoughts as well as bring clarity to communications of all types. From public relations to publishing to politics, you won't just find a job: you'll find a career with purpose.
Apply
Do you like to read, want to explore words and ideas and have a creative flair? An English major could be right for you.
Versatile
English is an excellent preparation for any employment requiring a strong liberal arts background and communication skills.
Scholarships
More than money, scholarships can give you breathing room to pursue more opportunities like studying abroad and internships.
Redefining the Classics
Forward-thinking, discussion-driven.
Our program seeks out not only classic literature, but new voices. In fact, we draw specific attention to women, Indigenous, Black and queer voices of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. But it’s not just to talk at you – you’ll exchange ideas with people different from you about literature from different perspectives.
Expand Your Story
At UW-Green Bay, we offer more than a degree. From clubs to studying abroad to podcasts, there are endless opportunities for you to enrich your learning, stand out to future employers and grow as a person, thinker and writer.
Double Major
Because English is such an interconnected field, adding a major like Spanish or Writing and Applied Arts is practical and efficient.

"Although the major revolved mostly around solo work, you never felt like you were working alone, because everyone in the program was so supportive of each other. The program is a place for those who never felt like they 'fit in' finally being able to have a safe and inclusive space to share their work and their story."
