Austin E. Cofrin School of Business
Supported by the Charles Schwab Foundation Center for Financial Wellness

This program was developed with the support and resources of the Charles Schwab Foundation Center for Financial Wellness, located within the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business, which is dedicated to promoting personal and professional financial wellness within the UW-Green Bay and local community. 

Classes

Classes are offered for four consecutive days once every 5-7 weeks. This time frame provides students with ample time to read all the materials prior to coming to class. Classes will be held from Thursday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. to minimize time away from the office. In-person classes take place at the Willie D. Davis Finance and Investment Lab.

The content in the classes aligns with the questions on the exam. Each series covers the eight principal knowledge domains (infographic). 

  1. Professional Conduct and Regulation (8%)
  2. General Principles of Financial Planning (15%)
  3. Risk Management and Insurance Planning (11%)
  4. Investment Planning (17%)
  5. Tax Planning (14%)
  6. Retirement Savings and Income Planning (18%)
  7. Estate Planning (10%)
  8. Psychology of Financial Planning (7%)


Each series delivers a systematized preparation course that trains financial advisors on how to review their clients’ entire financial picture to identify critical issues, evaluate financial exposures, and provide quality recommendations to help clients achieve their objectives.

Completion of the preparation course will enable financial advisors to operate at a higher level, provide better service and information to their clients and successful completion of the CFP® Certification Examination. 

Cohort Experience

Jeff Rattiner

Jeff Rattiner is President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rattiner’s Financial Planning Fast Track, Inc. and JR Financial Group, Inc. Both companies provide customized and CFP® Educational Training for CFP® certificates, financial advisors, CPAs and consumers. He also provides professional programming and conference development as well as speaker management within the financial planning industry.

Preston Cherry
Preston Cherry, Ph.D.

Preston Cherry, Ph.D., is the Founder and President of Concurrent Financial Planning, Head of the Financial Planning Program and Director of the Charles Schwab Center for Personal Financial Planning at the UW-Green Bay. Preston has over fifteen years of financial services and academic experience, including financial planning and investment management, published research in top journals, such as Personality and Individual Differences and Journal of Personal Finance, and extensive leadership in the planning profession. His current research surrounds personality traits and financial uncertainty risks, and he specializes in financial psychology.
