Career Pathways in Manufacturing

Career pathways in manufacturing offer a variety of opportunities across different sectors, including:

Production & Operations

Focus on the processes and systems involved in creating goods from raw materials. Roles include manufacturing engineer, production manager, quality control inspector and industrial maintenance technician.

Engineering & Technical

Design, test and improve manufacturing processes, systems and machinery. Careers include industrial engineer, manufacturing systems engineer, process engineer, automation engineer and product design engineer.

Supply Chain & Logistics

Concentrate on the procurement of raw materials, distribution of finished goods and maintaining an efficient flow of resources. Positions include logistics coordinator, supply chain manager, inventory control specialist and procurement specialist.

Research & Development (R&D)

Innovate new products, materials or manufacturing techniques. Roles include R&D engineer, materials scientist and product development engineer.

Quality Assurance (QA) & Compliance

Ensure that products meet industry standards and regulations. Positions include QA Manager and regulatory affairs specialist.

Management & Leadership

Oversee operations, teams and departments within the manufacturing operation. Careers include plant manager, operations manager and manufacturing supervisor. 

Health, Safety & Environment

Keep the workplace safe and minimize environmental impact. Roles include safety manager, environmental heath and safety specialist and health and safety technician.

Information Technology (IT)

Play a critical role in supporting digital systems. Positions include manufacturing IT specialist.

Sales & Marketing

Ensure that products are marketed and sold effectively. Careers include sales manager, business development manager and marketing manager.

Career Readiness

Students in the program interact with a career readiness team dedicated to each individual, providing practical leadership sessions that include workshops, presentations and company tours with partner companies. Program topics could include:

Standout as a Candidate

Upon successful completion of the skill development, you will receive an exclusive UW-Green Bay credential, a digital badge validating your accomplishment and signaling to employers your mastery of the curriculum. The digital badge can be featured on LinkedIn, your resume, email signature and website.

What is Tuition Reimbursement?

Tuition reimbursement is a program or benefit paid by the employer that aims to reduce the financial burden of tuition fees, making education more accessible.

Terms

You may earn up to $5,250 in tuition reimbursement paid by the employer for each year you participate in the program.

Eligibility

As long as you are a full-time student at UW-Green Bay and employed by one of our partner manufacturers, you are eligible to participate in Future Leaders in Manufacturing.

Withdrawal

  • If a student withdraws from UW-Green Bay at any point during the semester, the student will be responsible for paying tuition and fees based on the refund schedule.
  • If a student loses their job with one of our manufacturing partners, they may owe outstanding tuition or fees at UW-Green Bay and/or reimbursement of tuition or fees to the employer, depending on company policy.
  • Employment loss will not prevent a student from participating in the career readiness and coaching benefits of Future Leaders in Manufacturing.
