Presentation Requests

The Career Planning & Professional Connections staff are available to provide presentations to our students on topics related to career and professional development.  From career exploration to resume writing, view our list of common presentation topics below.  We are also happy to discuss other career-related ideas you have for presentations or class assignments.  

To facilitate staff availability and adequate preparation, please submit your requests at least two weeks in advance.  We will try to accommodate requests submitted after this timeframe.

Common Presentation Topics:

Each of these topics can generally be covered in 30-45 minutes.  We can make recommendations and modify the content to work within the allotted time you have available in your class or meeting.

  1. Overview of Career Planning services and resources.  Provide information about the career planning assistance available to students throughout all the stages of their career development.
  2. Career exploration.  Outline the career decision-making process, and provide an overview of the tools available to explore career paths and majors.
  3. Careers in ...  Learn about career paths within specific fields.  With advanced notice (at least one month) this could involve a panel of alumni and/or community professionals in a particular career field.
  4. Handshake.  An overview of how to utilize Handshake, UW-Green Bay's online platform for job and internship opportunities and career-related events.  
  5. Resume writing (general).  The basics of writing effective resumes.  Note: Pairs well with the "writing cover letters" topic.
  6. Resume writing (major/field specific).  Overview of resume writing with specific focus on content and standards relevant to a particular field.  Note: Pairs well with the "writing cover letters" topic.
  7. Writing cover letters.  How to write effective cover letters for jobs and internships.
  8. Internships.  Help students understand the benefits of internships and other work-based learning experiences, as well as the steps involved in identifying, pursuing, and maximizing these opportunities. 
  9. Networking.  Discuss the basics and benefits of professional networking, as well as strategies and resources, such as informational interviewing and LinkedIn.
  10. Job or internship search.  How to develop and effective job strategy and explore relevant resources.
  11. Interviewing.  How to prepare, appropriate attire, and strategies for answering common questions.
  12. LinkedIn 101.  Learn more about thie networking tool, including how to create a profile, connect with alumni and professionals, and search for positions.
  13. Job fair preparation.  Tips to help students prepare for a job fair, from researching organizations, to making a great first impression, and following up afterward.
  14. Other.  Have a career-related topic not addressed above?  There is an opportunity for you to share your ideas on the request form.
