Course Description

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) has shown promise in treating various mental health conditions, particularly for individuals who haven't found relief through conventional therapies. This training is designed for mental health professionals seeking to better understand how ketamine is used in clinical settings and integrate KAP into their practice. Participants will gain an understanding of the therapeutic potential of ketamine, safety and ethical considerations, and KAP protocols and techniques.

Learning Objectives:

  • After participating in this session, attendees should be able to understand ketamine's history and its use in psychotherapy.
  • After participating in this session, attendees should be able to identify safety and ethical considerations, including guidelines for screening, risk management and informed consent.
  • After participating in this session, attendees should be able to explain key considerations for preparation, dosing and integration sessions.
  • After participating in this session, attendees should be able to pursue additional training opportunities to begin their own KAP practice.

About the Trainer

Angela Willits, LCSW

Angela Willits, LCSW

Angela Willits, MSW, LCSW is an associate clinical professor, director of the Part-Time MSW Program and co-chair of the mental health focus area at the UW-Madison Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work. She also owns a small private psychotherapy practice, Willits Mental Health Services. She teaches practice courses in mental health, as well as provides supervision and consultation to MSW students and clinicians. She has completed a certificate in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Theory and Methodology with Journey Clinical, a certificate in Psychedelic Therapy and Integration through Fluence and a certificate in MDMA-Assisted Therapy through Lykos. Prior to teaching, she was a mental health social worker for the Department of Veterans Affairs with a specialty in treating posttraumatic stress disorder. She is a certified provider of Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
