Wild mint is found primarily on moist soils in full sun. It is strongly aromatic and walking through a patch of wild mint will often reveal its presence even if it has not been seen. Leaves are opposite, toothed and often pubescent (hairy). There are several other species of similar general appearance and the mint family has many representatives in our area, so beginners are well-advised to confirm their identification with a reliable dichotomous key, such as the Michigan Flora, Vol III, by E. Voss.
