Trees of Wisconsin

Catalpa ovata G.Don
Chinese catalpa
Family: Bignoniaceae
no photos yet

Catalpa ovata is native to China, occasionally cultivated in Wisconsin and rarely escapes near plantings in the southern counties. The glabrous undersides of leaves will distinguish this species from the similar C. speciosa which is more commonly planted and also rarely escapes. Both species have striking large flowers and long, cylindrical fruits.
