Erucastrum gallicum is an alternate-leaved herbaceous plant, usually 20-50 cm tall. The leaves are deeply divided, the flowers are pale yellow and the pinnatifid bract beneath each flower (and fruit) is a very distinctive character. Flowering begins in June and extends deep into the fall, especially along the Lake Michigan beaches.

Erucastrum gallicum is most common in the counties near Lake Michigan where it is found along the beaches and less often in disturbed soils, especially roadsides. It is probably more common as a weedy plant than is indicated by the map.
