Ambrosia psilostachya is somewhat similar to Ambrosia artemisiifolia (common ragweed), but can always be distinguished by the presence of rhizomes connecting stems beneath the ground. It is also more likely to be found in very dry, sandy and unproductive sites, whereas A. artemisiifolia is often most successful in disturbed soils of farm fields, roadsides, construction sites, etc.
