Math & Stats Internships
Factor In Real-World Experience
Put your classroom knowledge to the test.
With an internship in mathematics and statistics, you can earn college credit in a real-world work environment. Internships bridge the gap between theory and practice and allow you to apply your mathematical and statistical skills to tackle real-world problems in various industries. This is your chance to try out different jobs, network with local professionals and build your resume.
Internships for Credit
Internships aren't required for a math and stats major, but they can help you get a job after graduation. Once you've achieved junior class standing, you're eligible to take an internship for credit. Generally, internships involve about 50 hours of field work for each credit, so about 150 hours for a three-credit internship; this is about 10 hours per week during a regular semester. Internships are to follow these expectations:
Internship Grading
Internships are graded based on the quality of performance and the quality of the final paper.
Supervised Internship
The off-campus internship supervisor is expected to oversee your work and ensure the position offers educational value and a good experience.
Faculty Mentor
A faculty mentor on campus oversees the internship, meets periodically with the student during the semester, reviews written work and submits a grade.
Write About It
The intern completes a paper evaluating their experience during the internship and connecting internship experience with material learned in traditional classes.
