Student Rights & Responsibilities
The University complies with federal and state privacy laws and regulations. The data in your file may be released to financial aid donors, lenders and University offices needing the information for offering financial aid and advising. No one else may review your file without your written consent or a subpoena or court order. Information concerning the amount of aid for which you are eligible cannot be provided over the telephone.
In compliance with federal and state law and university policy, UW-Green Bay does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender and/or gender identity or expression, marital or parental status, genetic information, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship status, veteran or military status (including disabled veteran, recently separated veteran, other protected veteran, or Armed Forces service medal veteran status), age, or disability regarding treatment of students in educational programs or activities which it operates. Inquiries concerning this policy may be directed to the appropriate campus admitting or employing unit or to the Affirmative Action Office, Cofrin Library, CL710.
Students' Rights
Students have the right to know:
- What financial aid programs are available.
- Descriptions of the various programs listed in their financial aid offer.
- The deadlines for submitting applications for each of the financial aid programs available.
- How financial aid will be distributed, how decisions on that distribution are made and the basis for these decisions.
- How their financial need was determined. This includes how costs for tuition and fees, room and board, travel, books and supplies, etc., are considered in their estimated cost of attendance.
- What resources (such as student and parental contribution, other financial aid, etc.) were considered in the calculation of their need.
- How much of their financial need, as determined by the institution, has been met.
- The Federal Return of Title IV funds and the school's refund policy.
- What portion of the financial aid received must be repaid, and what portion is grant aid.
- If the aid they are receiving is a loan, student has the right to know the interest rate on the loan, the total amount that must be repaid, the repayment procedures, the length of time for repayment of the loan and when repayment begins.
- How the institution determines whether students are making satisfactory academic progress, and what happens if they are not.
Students' Responsibility
Students have the responsibility to:
- Complete all application forms accurately and submit them in a timely manner to the appropriate office.
- Provide correct information. In most instances, misreporting information on financial aid application forms is a violation of law, and may be considered a criminal offense that could result in indictment under the U.S. Criminal Code.
- Submit all additional documentation, corrections and/or new information requested by either the financial aid office or the agency to which their application was submitted.
- Read and understand all forms that they are asked to sign, and maintain copies for their records.
- Accept responsibility for all agreements that they sign.
- Perform the work that is agreed upon in accepting a Federal Work Study offer.
- Inform the Financial Aid Office of:
- Any enrollment changes.
- Any additional financial aid they receive such as scholarships, grants, assistantships or other educational reimbursements or assistance.
- Be aware of:
- Deadlines for application or reapplication for aid.
- Return of Title IV Funds policy.
- The University's refund procedures.
- Complete Entrance Counseling, if a first-time borrower.
- Complete a Master Promissory Note, if a first-time borrower, or complete a new MPN if your MPN has expired (MPNs expire after ten years).
- Complete Exit Counseling if they have borrowed from a federal loan program and are terminating their enrollment or registering as less than a half-time student (1 to 5 credits for undergraduate, and 1 to 4 credits for graduate).
- Repay all loans according to the payment schedule.
- Maintain current and correct addresses with the University.
