Education Major
Inspire Lifelong
Learners
Foster a love for learning.
Teaching is about more than knowing the subject area. It’s about your students. The best teachers are those who pursue a love of learning that does not end at graduation. With four emphases to choose from, we’ll help prepare you to inspire and motivate your students.
What's Your Path?
As a major in education, you are not required to complete an academic minor to be endorsed for a license to teach Grades K through 9 or teach science at any age.
Elementary & Middle School (Grades K-9)
Elementary and middle school are some of the most formative years of people's entire lives! In this emphasis, you'll become qualified to prepare students and set them up for success.
English as a Second Language (Grades PK-12)
67.8 million people—or about 1 in 5—speak a language other than English at home in the U.S. Bottom line? Many students need support learning English as a second language from teachers who are committed to their success.
Science Education
No matter what grade you want to teach, you'll major in education if you want to focus in science.
Accelerated Track
In the accelerated track, you can take graduate-level courses that will directly apply to your degree. After graduation, you can apply 9 of those graduate credits to our MS Applied Leadership in Teaching & Learning. Requirements for participation include:
- Full admission to the Professional Program in Education
- Junior standing at the completion of semester 1 in the Professional Program in Education
- Cumulative GPA of 3.25
- Education Faculty recommendation
Applications must be submitted by October 1 or March 1 for participation in the following semester.
